An intuitive design that helps people be their best

Personal gold is a startup company that has developed a fitness app which provides users with breakthrough fitness and health advice. The CEO of the company was looking for someone to establish the design and style of their app.

Project goal
Make an app that is visibly appealing and clearly lays out the physical fitness metrics of its users.
Target audience
Male/Female in their 20s-50s who wants personally tailored guidance on key daily physical fitness decisions such as meals, training, and sleep.
The challenge
There are already fitness apps that can track the personal health of its users. An important challenge was to distinguish Gold Standard from other physical fitness apps.
My Role
Visual Designer
I worked closely with the CEO to develop the visual design for the app. I worked on UI visual designs for this project.
Research
Competitive Analysis
An important part of the process was looking at other apps, to learn from their successes and for inspiration for the new layout. I looked at the 5 main fitness and coach apps that were popular in the health & fitness category in the iOS app store.
Insights
All 5 apps have a goal section that allow users to set their personal objectives, and I realized the importance of having a design that would remind users of the targets they’ve set. My focus on the main screen was to have a design that would remind users of their goals.
Design principles
I discussed with my client what type of design users would want. And I chose 5 words that could drive the overall visual strategy. 5 words are trendy, effective, sporty, cheerful, and fresh.

Style guide
Before I start designing UI screens, I set up colors and fonts. I chose colors that wouldd be visible on both a dark and light background because the app would have both a day and night mode.

In visual design process, I kept in mind keywords for sporty, trendy and fresh. And I created two different mode for day and night.

I also created app logo design for this app. This app’s main goal is achieving gold medal in personal life. And name of this app is personal gold. Based on that, I created symbolized logo of gold medal.
